Quick Note:  This is not a finished post as SexTech is constantly evolving ~ Updated on July 22, 2019

In the advanced world of Artificial Intelligence, Crypto Currency, 3D printing, Block chain technology, Sexual awareness and education still remains in the dark ages.

Our fascination for sex is matched by our conflicted attitudes toward it, says Cindy Gallop.

We Think Too Much and Feel To Little.

It’s no secret that most of us have never been taught about our bodies, sexuality, or sexual values.

If we have no information or guidance, how can we fully enjoy one of life’s greatest pleasures and truly embrace it as a healthy and enjoyable experience?

After decades, pornography still remains the default sexual education tool.

However, I am confident we will see a significant paradigm shift in the next 3 to 5 years, primarily because of passionate female founders who are championing the SexTech Revolution.

What is SexTech?

SexTech is defined and pioneered by Cindy Gallop as “technology, and technology-driven ventures, designed to enhance, innovate and disrupt in every area of human sexuality and human sexual experience.”

I’ve spent a few weeks in New York this year getting to know some of the industry leaders. Currently there are hundreds of SexTech startups in New York alone.

The media and tech blogs continue to only cover the hardware side of SexTech – teledildonics, VR porn, AI, Sex robots, etc…

There is an entire category of edtech and Saas platforms, educating and bringing humanity closer together that is not getting much coverage.

SexTech startups like ConfidentLovers, OMGYES.com, MakeLoveNotporn,  Happy Play Time,  just to a name a few, are all starting positive conversations and helping humanity come out of the sexual dark ages.

Sex Tech Inspiration

We can’t really blame our parents or adults whose attitude towards sex is passed on from their parents who inherited taboos, religious misinformation and centuries of ignorance.

It’s time to question our limited and destructive beliefs about sex and start making positive changes.

As the saying goes, “necessity is the mother of all inventions.”

As with any entrepreneur inspired by solving problems, SexTech entrepreneurs are inspired by finding solutions to their own personal challenges.

I started ConfidentLovers because porn was my only education tool, so I thought my pleasure was dependent on a mans’ satisfaction. I had no idea what type of pleasure I craved and how to ask for the type of pleasure I wanted. I had no tools or resources.

Cindy Gallop started MakeLoveNotPorn, because porn has become default sexual education. MakeLoveNotPorn operates in the biggest market of them all. Not porn, not sex, but the market of human happiness.

Mal Harrison started Erotic Intelligence because sexuality is not just reproductive. It’s our personality, our creativity, imagination, and personal expression. It’s the way we perceive, connect, and engage with the world around us.

“How will we form new relationship boundaries with VR? Is sex with a robot cheating? Is intimacy with a robot even possible?”

Kinkbnb positioned their services for what many use Airbnb for.

A Billion Dollar Market?

The Porn industry has been the catalyst for driving innovation and launching technology forward, yet investors are too shy and conservative to fund sextech companies.

Today’s startup tech scene is actively encouraging disruption in every sector imaginable – except sexuality.

What most investors don’t understand is the huge market opportunity available for “socially accepted sex” says Cindy Gallop.

According to Global insights SexTech is worth more than $30 billion.

New markets have been created and adapted in Meditation, Yoga, Health, Nutrition, Fitness, Spirituality and Relationships. Yoga and Meditation was not even in our lexicon 10 years ago.

The only part of the ‘self’ that remains unexplored and filled with ignorance, shame, guilt and anxiety is our sexuality.

It’s also the part of the ‘self’ that remains in the dark ages and hasn’t been taught, understood, explored or openly discussed.

Opportunity For Investors

Sex is a universal language – we all have it, we all want to know more about it, we all want to be better lovers and it’s recession proof.

Sextech companies are on a mission to normalize what should already be normal – feeling good about our sexuality, educating ourselves about our body, sharing our knowledge with others and freely, buying into SexTech products and services.

People are waking up to the realization that we no longer benefit from living in a world of taboos. Instead we crave depth, pleasure, and connection.

Sextech is a world changing business, because human desires go beyond social norms and the heart of sextech is where technology can have the most human impact.
